Dear Matriculants,
It is a day of joy, laughter, happiness, and celebration. Alas, your hard work has finally paid off, and with pride, you can now refer to yourselves as bona fide students of the great University of Nigeria. Congratulations!
While you celebrate, dear young lions and lionesses, bear in mind that the journey has officially started; it only gets more advanced from here. Your life in the den has kick-started, and every one of your actions from now on determines how you will end.
Try as much as possible to achieve your main purpose of being in this institution and not get carried away by the merriment and extras life at university is bound to bring our way. Remember that you cannot ride solo in this game. You need friends, trustworthy people you can confide in, people who will help pick you up when you are falling, and people who will encourage you when it seems like all is lost.
You need to focus on your studies like it’s no one’s business. Don’t get so invested in unimportant things that you forget why you came to school in the first place. Set realistic goals and be disciplined enough to follow them through. Very importantly, study yourself first and know what works for you—are you a night reader or a day reader?
If you aren’t aware, exams are around the corner! You might be thinking to yourself that you really haven’t covered anything and that there’s no time to salvage the situation. You can start now and follow through diligently; better late than never. Know when to ask for help! Stay informed, ask questions, and seek advice from your seniors who have been in the den before you. Their experiences will guide you and prevent you from making the mistakes they made.
Dear young lions and lionesses, Read like you haven’t prayed, and pray like you haven’t read. Do not skip your classes, and remember that the current level you are at is the best time to build your CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average).
Please be wise, manage your time, be as productive as possible, network with people, keep your eyes open for opportunities, remain focused, and, most importantly, stay safe. Congratulations on your matriculation, all UNN/UNEC freshmen. TheTrust Media wishes you a beautiful and successful stay at the university.
